In 2002, he reached the top-10 single in the men’s ATP World Ranking for the first time, and was No.in the men’s singles world ranking on November 3, 2003.
He started his career as a professional tennis player in the year 2000. Before that, he had established himself as the best youth tennis player. As a professional, in the year 2000 he became the youngest player to be among the 200 best men in the world ranking, with only 18 years and 3 months. Already in the year 2001 became the youngest tennis player to be among the 20 best men’s world ranking, at 19 years and 4 months. Already in 2002 he became the youngest American player to be among the 10 best in the world since Michael Chang in 1992. And in 2003 with the conquest of the No.tennis player in the men’s singles world ranking, the second-youngest to achieve that, only behind the Australian Lleyton Hewitt, who won the No.position in the men’s singles world ranking at only 21 years and 2 months.
He won 32 ATP titles in singles and 4 doubles during his career as a professional tennis player.
He won the U.S. Open Grand Slam of 2003 when he defeated Spanish Juan Carlos Ferrero in the final.
