Miles Dewey Davis III (Alton, May 26, 1926 – Santa Monica, September 28, 1991) was a trumpeter, songwriter and bandleader of North- American.

Considered one of the most influential musicians of the twentieth century, Davis has been at the forefront of almost every development of jazz since World War II until the 1990s. He has participated in several recordings of bebop and early recordings of cool jazz. It was part of the development of modal jazz, and also jazz fusion that originated from his work with other musicians in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Miles Davis belonged to a traditional jazz trumpeter class, which began with Buddy Bolden and developed with Joe “King” Oliver, Louis Armstrong, Roy Eldridge and Dizzy Gillespie. Unlike these musicians he was never considered with a high level of technical skill. His great success as a musician, however, was to go beyond being influential and distinctive in his instrument, and to mold whole styles and ways of making music through his works. Many of the most important jazz musicians made their name in the second half of the 20th century in Miles Davis’ groups, including: Joe Zawinul, Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock, saxophonists John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, George Coleman and Kenny Garrett, drummer Tony Williams and guitarist John McLaughlin.

As a trumpeter Davis had a clear and pure sound, but also an unusual freedom of articulation and height. He was known for having a low and minimalist record of playing, but was also able to achieve high complexity and technique with his trumpet.

On March 13, 2006, Davis was posthumously included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame . It was also included in St. Louis Walk of Fame, the Big Band and the Jazz Hall of Fame, and the Down Beat’s Jazz Hall of Fame.

Kind of Blue has been cited as the best-selling Miles Davis album of its career as well as the best-selling jazz album in history. On September 7, 2008, the album was certified by the RIAA (Association of American Phonographic Industries) with a quadruple platinum album. Kind of Blue is also recognized by many fans, critics and jazz listeners as the greatest jazz album of all time, often reaching the top lists of “best albums” of various genres other than jazz . In 2002, the recording of the album was one of the 50 chosen that year for the National Record of Recordings of the Library of Congress. E In 2003, the album ranked 12th in Rolling Stone magazine on its List of the 500 Best Albums Ever. On September 30, 2008 a 50th anniversary release box was released by Columbia / Legacy Records.
