Whether it’s due to money wrangling, publicity seeking or sheer vengeance, celebrity divorces are fraught with so much drama that it’s hard to pick the top contenders. Some couples, though, manage to rise to the top. The following celebrity divorce dramas were as entertaining as a night at the movies.
Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries—A mere 72 days after they tied the knot, Kim Kardashian filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences. Humphries responded by requesting an annulment or a legal separation in lieu of divorce, and the two have consequently become embroiled in a nasty divorce.
Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren—Tiger Woods’ divorce came after the golfer’s cheating came to light. For months, the media turned up what seemed to be an endless parade of women with whom he’d had affairs.
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver—Once the Governator hired Jennifer Aniston’s divorce lawyer, it was clear he wasn’t going to rubber stamp a split. Divorce proceedings began almost as soon as Shriver learned of Arnold’s secret child with a former member of their domestic staff.
Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton—Liz and Dick made headlines when they busted up two marriages to get married, then divorced, get married again, then divorced a second time.
Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards—Nothing’s normal where Charlie Sheen is concerned, so it’s to be expected that the mudslinging surrounding their divorce involved some supposedly desired post-marriage sperm.
Kim Basinger and Alec Baldwin—He thought she thought he was trying to kill her. Alec griped to the press that “there’s a 120-pound actress on my back.” That was more than a decade ago, but the two still battle over custody issues. Kim went public with a phone tape of Alec calling their daughter “a little pig.” He apologized and claimed again that the daughter was a victim of “parental alienation”—Kim’s efforts to keep them apart.
Other divorce stories are sure to take the lead in time, but until then these infamous divorces reign supreme — and help Los Angeles and Orange County divorce attorneys make some serious money.
